Minimum Unit Pricing

It’s time for more big state nanny intervention this time in my country of wales where the minimum unit price policy of the government of Wales has become law as from today. There is no evidence from Scotland where the MUP was introduced in 2018 that there has been any impact on alcohol related deaths and indeed overall alcohol consumption as a whole. In fact, it appears from annual research carried out that overall alcohol sales increased in Scotland in the year following its introduction and alcohol related deaths went up. The only thing the MUP does is to hit the sensible drinking poor who because of limited means buy cheaper alcohol. Anyway lets watch this space for the impact but I remain unconvinced. In order to get a dramatic impact why dont they fix the MUP at £2 or £3 or more? I wonder why?
