Institute of Licensing – London talk – 21st April 2023. Tips, banter and sex

A great pleasure on Friday to address a packed meeting of the great Institute of Licensing London and the 32 London Boroughs, Metropolitan PoliceCity of London Police and the hospitality sector in the capital. As Chairman, and proud to be voted into my position for another term by the membership, its always fun to be able to speak at our events as well as chair. We are a broad church and whilst I primarily act for the licensing trade I also act for local authorities, police and residents.

I spoke about the new legislation on tipping; the #WorkerProtectionBill l which seeks to stop banter in pubs and bars and place enormous burdens on already hard pressed owners seeking to recover from lockdowns and finally I spoke about the impact of the recent High Court decision involving BCP Council ( Bournemouth) and its new sexual entertainment venue licensing policy which was over turned. For my slides and thoughts on all these topics please visit the Institute of Licensing London website or contact me at Keystone Law. Great questions from the floor and discussion afterwards.

We were also fortunate enough to have a presentation from the always erudite Kate Nicholls OBE of UKHospitality who updated us on the impact on our great hospitality sector of the lockdowns and state of the recover since. She is great ambassador for our sector.

Also speaking was the knowledgeable Niall McCann my fellow partner at Keystone Law who, in a great presentation, spoke about insolvency of companies and the effects on their premises licences.

I was also delighted to be able to hold the event at my club The Kia Oval – Surrey County Cricket Club in the India Room hence the pictures of great Indian cricketers of the past and thanks also to their catering staff and team.
